I'll be sharing some of my favorite tips and finds to make your home cozy. I'll give some real life examples and it's okay if you don't agree! My house isn't perfect but it's finally in a place that is coming together and it feels more like home everyday. Everyone has different taste but I would love to help people who have style similar to mine. We also do a lot of diy renovations so I can share some of that as well. Some of my favorite home items are found here.

Lighting
Lighting can really set the mood for your house. I really don't love the harsh blue lights in our home. We have mostly all warm white lights. They just seem so cozy and we love them. These twinkle lights are one of my favorite purchases ever. We have them strung across our living room (pictured above) using little adhesive hooks. They have multiple settings, they can twinkle, flash, be solid, etc. When you are stringing lights, make sure you account for the back and forth distance. You will probably need more footage than you think! Grab some extra and return them if you have way more than you need. I have to say, these lights have become one of my favorite things about our home during the gloomy winter!
Neutrals + Earthy Tones
I know this isn't for everyone, but I love a neutral pallet with some pops of earthy tones or accents. Over the years, I have slowly discovered that I love nature accents. I have some seashells from trips we have been on, a few large mushrooms that we have found or were given, and lots of plants. When it comes to paint colors, for example, the color palette in our home is this: Regular walls and ceilings Sherwin Williams Greek Villa (with the exception of our brighter white shiplap in the living room that is just how it came), interior doors Sherwin Williams Iron Ore, and all neutral furniture and LVP floors. With that being said, our home is an open layout and with our kitchen we wanted to make it a little cozier. Our cabinets are painted Valspar Warm Eucalyptus. We have an island that is Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams. Our hardware is brass/gold sort of in-between and our fixtures are a nice matte black. I painted some old nightstands we have and I love the color Sandbar by Sherwin Williams for those, if you're looking for a good creamy neutral.

Wood Accents
This is so underrated. I personally don't love a house that is all white showing no real wood or other tones. It doesn't feel cozy to me. I think wood adds such a nice addition to a mostly white space though. It's also easy to mix similar wood tones throughout your home. You can always sand and stain if something clashes.
Texture
Texture can bring so much comfort to your home. You can add this in many ways. One way is by using different upholstery fabrics, usually an accent chair or something of that nature. Another way is with pillows and blankets. I love when there are a few different textures together. It really feels like it warms the room up. When there is no texture it can sometimes feel sterile like a hospital.
Different finishes
The best example that comes to mind for different finishes in your home are flooring, fixtures, and tiles. For example, you might have a super shiny shower tile with a black faucet and then a matte flooring like luxury vinyl plank or a matte finished hard wood. Another scenario would be you have a wood vanity with shiny gold hardware for the faucet and an old matte looking fixture. There really are so many combinations. In our kitchen we have matte black light fixtures, shiny pearly cream tile, and stained cool tone butcherblock countertops. We have open shelves that are against the tile that match the cool tone butcherblock. It tied together so nicely, thanks to my husband!

Natural Light
This is one of those things where you have to work with what you've got. I love a light airy feel and I use sheet curtains all throughout the main parts of our home. In the bedrooms, we like blackout curtains. All of mine are super old and they were crazy cheap, I think at the time they were around $12 for a pair. I will link something similar here. I like when the curtain rods are about 4 inches from the ceilings usually and the curtains slightly puddle on the floor, just a tiny bit! It gives them that "drapey" feel. I also prefer not to have grommet (metal rings on them) and prefer fabric loopholes.
Nice Smells
This one is the toughest because you truly can become nose blind to your own scent and the scent of your home. I worked in real estate as a real estate agent for a few years and I have had to nicely tell people that their home smelled like pets, or worse, pet urine. They truly have no idea most of the time. Same with some people that smoke in their home, they cannot smell it, but others can. Some of the most inviting smells to me are baked goods, which I know is not always possible, but oh so yummy! Another favorite are essential oils that don't smell like perfume. I like a natural subtle smell that isn't too much but you still notice. If you haven't ever tried essential oils, don't knock them yet! I know there is a lot of "woowoo" talk about them but I love them for fresh smelling air.
