Lately, as in the last several years since becoming a mom, I’ve been feeling a pull toward simplifying—slowing down a bit, being more mindful about what we bring into our home. One of the biggest (and surprisingly easiest) changes I’ve made is switching over to natural cleaning products. No more overpowering scents or long ingredient lists I can't pronounce. Just simple, safer, low-tox options that actually work and make our home feel fresh, calm, and clean.
This change didn’t happen overnight, but I’ve learned that small swaps can make a big difference, not just for our health, but for the overall feel of our space. If you’ve been curious about going more natural with your cleaning routine, I’m sharing what’s worked for us and how I eased into it without feeling overwhelmed.

Natural cleaning products have come a long way. They’re not only better for your health, but they’re also safer for kids, pets, and the environment. I started replacing traditional cleaners with DIY non-toxic alternatives made from simple ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils. I also use several brands regularly that I fully trust. It’s amazing how effective natural disinfectants and homemade cleaners can be, without all the harsh chemicals. Whether it’s a natural all-purpose spray for the kitchen or a gentle, eco-friendly glass cleaner, each swap has helped create a more intentional, low-tox home. When you know better, you can do better.
Favorite Things:
Disinfectant
My favorite nontoxic disinfectant is Force of Nature. They make it so easy. You can order their little machine and refills for months at a time. It is a great disinfectant and also great for washing windows. The smell dissipates after a few minutes, and I don't mind it. I tell everyone about this! We try really hard to be a low tox household. Find them here.
Everyday cleaning and stain removal
I use Branch Basics for many different things. I have been using them since my first born was tiny. It's a product I'm not worried about around little kids and babies who put everything in their mouth. This is actually meant to be a non toxic hand wash and laundry detergent, too. My top picks from here the cleaning concentrate and the oxygen powder. The bottle of concentrate lasts a long time, you only need a small amount per bottle. The oxygen powder is magic. Soak dingy clothes in it for the day giving a stir every couple hours and wash like normal after, you'll be shocked. This product has become a household staple and I tell everyone in my real life about it, too. Check them out here.
Swedish dish cloths
I love these and use these exact ones. I use them to clean my counters and my kitchen table and chairs. They would be great for any surface that you can wipe down but I prefer keeping kitchen stuff separate from bathroom cleaning stuff. I wash them in the washer and dry them in the dryer. They do get stiff but once you wet them they are like new again. Convenient that you don't run out like you would paper towels, and also better for the earth. One of my favorite products. You can find them here.
Dish scrubbies
I love these for cleaning everything. I can't find anything else that I like this much. They last a long time and then I put them in the dishwasher every couple weeks to sanitize them.
When is comes to washing dishes, I like this kind! They hold up well and I only go through a couple per year. I cook (and wash dishes) A LOT.
Essential Oils
This is basically the only brand that I buy. I trust them and they are far less expensive than the big major brands that everyone knows about. My favorite scents are immunity, cinnamon bark, and pumpkin pie. The connection scent smells like lilacs. They make your house smell so nice. I also add a few drops on my vacuum filters so that it smells nice every time I vacuum. They have a cleaning concentrate that I like and use on a daily basis as well. I get the immunity scent. The dishwasher tabs are great, too! Part of having a nontoxic household is finding a replacement of artificial fragrance. Find revive here.
Glass amber spray bottles
These are fantastic. I keep different cleaning products in them. They are great for anything that has essential oils in it. (Like revive that I mentioned above.) They look nice on your counter, too. You can find them here.
Vacuum
Dyson all the way! I love mine. Find it Here.
Microfiber spray mop
I love this because I can use whichever cleaner I want. It comes with reusable pads that I throw in the washer with my cleaning cloths. You can find them here.
Steam Mop
I love this steam mop to kill germs! It's chemical free, easy, and makes your floor feel fresh. If you walk barefoot you can just tell when your floor is actually clean or if it just looks clean. You can buy more reusable pads to go with it. I have had mine for years and it has held up great.
A splurge purchase- tineco!
I went back and forth for a couple years about buying a Tineco. I kept seeing them everywhere and I just wasn't willing to spend the money. As a mom this has made mealtime clean up a breeze. It is cordless and self cleaning. It's pretty quiet considering what it does. I love mine so much. I have this one that I got on sale. This specific model is awesome because I try to be low tox and this one has the ability to transform tap water into electrolyzed water. Hence, non toxic disinfecting. Highly recommend. Ask for it for a gift. I will eventually write a full post going into all of the details.
